Hello and welcome

Who we are

Welcome to our blog – a place where you can find out more about us – who we are, where we are, and what goes on behind the scenes at Blue Jigsaw and Portobello Interiors HQ.

For starters, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about who we are….

Blue Jigsaw was set up by myself and my husband Graham many moons ago. We have a fabulous and very dedicated, much-loved team, and if you combine all our years of experience together, we have over 200 years worth!

In between client consultations, buying trips, and making and fitting clients’ soft furnishings, you can find us perusing our favourite interiors shops and boutiques, talking about what we plan on having for lunch... and/or dinner (we are big foodies!), or planning our travels… whether it’s our next London outing, a Sunday stroll in the Cotswolds, or our summer holidays.

We are lucky enough for our office, workshop and studio to be located on the stunning grounds of Wells Farm in Cuffley, Hertfordshire. This is where all the action happens, from the creation of our custom-made soft furnishings and homewares, to hosting Paint Workshops and client consultations.

On the farm, we have a whole host of wildlife. We currently have a family of Canadian Geese who return each Spring to hatch their eggs and raise their young. It’s not unusual for one of us to run out and head off any predators that may threaten the goslings. We also have Swifts that return every year, and in years gone by, from my office window you could even see the camels wandering round the neighbouring farm when the circus is in town.

Blue Jigsaw is our one stop shop of fabulous homewares and accessories. Graham and I do all the buying together. Across all of our brands, we are passionate about the products we bring in and have an ethos of where our materials are sourced. We try out pretty much everything at home before it has a space on our website or in our studio!

One of the brands we’re really proud of is Lunar Cotton, which we have designed and developed ourselves. It is widely used by boutique hotels and high-end holiday lets up and down the full length of the British Isles, as well as being sold to the public. If you enjoy staycations in Devon or Cornwall, there’s a good chance you’ve slept on Lunar Cotton bed linen!

Portobello Interiors, our Interior Design company, is inspired by my passion for, and roots in design. Offering clients a one stop shop for home design projects; fabrics, wallpapers and paint are our passion. We make all our soft furnishings in our workroom and fit everything ourselves. Clients are hand held throughout projects. We don’t consider anything too small or too big. We have worked hard over the years with clients and mainly now work by word of mouth. Our studio is very welcoming and is a complete treasure trove.

Our studio is also the home of our much-loved Annie Sloan Paint Workshops. If you’re planning to redecorate, or simply transform a piece of furniture, you can book yourself in for a workshop with me, where I share essential tips, tricks and what tools to use to create the latest looks. (Obligatory tea and cake are, of course, always included!).

Watch this space to find out what we’re up to behind the scenes and be the first to see a sneak peek of exciting launches before they happen. We’re also going to show you round the farm, and you might even catch a glimpse of some of the team!
